Interior Minister the government has presented what is being labeled the largest reforms to tackle unauthorized immigration "in decades".

The proposed measures, inspired by the more rigorous system enacted by the Danish administration, establishes asylum approval conditional, restricts the legal challenge options and proposes travel sanctions on states that refuse repatriation.

Temporary Asylum Approvals

Those receiving refugee status in the UK will only be allowed to remain in the country for limited periods, with their case evaluated biannually.

This means people could be sent back to their home country if it is considered "stable".

The scheme mirrors the method in Denmark, where protected persons get temporary residence documents and must reapply when they terminate.

Officials claims it has begun helping people to return to Syria by choice, following the removal of the Syrian government.

It will now start exploring mandatory repatriation to Syria and other countries where people have not regularly been deported to in recent times.

Protected individuals will also need to be resident in the UK for 20 years before they can apply for permanent residence - raised from the present 60 months.

Additionally, the government will introduce a new "work and study" immigration pathway, and urge asylum recipients to find employment or start studying in order to move to this option and obtain permanent status faster.

Only those on this employment and education pathway will be able to petition for family members to come to in the UK.

Human Rights Law Overhaul

Authorities also aims to terminate the practice of allowing numerous reviews in protection claims and introducing instead a unified review process where each basis must be raised at once.

A recently established review panel will be established, manned by qualified judges and supported by preliminary guidance.

For this purpose, the authorities will enact a law to change how the family unity rights under Clause 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights is implemented in migration court cases.

Solely individuals with close family members, like offspring or mothers and fathers, will be able to remain in the UK in coming years.

Ending Housing and Financial Support

The home secretary will rescind the statutory obligation to provide refugee applicants with assistance, ceasing certain lodging and weekly pay.

Aid would still be available for "individuals in poverty" but will be refused from those with permission to work who decline to, and from persons who violate regulations or resist deportation orders.

Those who "intentionally become impoverished" will also be refused assistance.

According to proposals, protection claimants with assets will be required to help pay for the expense of their accommodation.

This echoes the Scandinavian method where protection claimants must employ resources to pay for their accommodation and administrators can take possessions at the border.
