Following a decisive victory at the Qatar Grand Prix, the reigning world champion has dramatically reduced the margin in the title race. He is now positioned just twelve points behind leader Lando Norris and in front of teammate Oscar Piastri, everything is in place for a thrilling three-way season finale at the iconic Yas Marina Circuit.

A Win Forged by Strategy and Seizing Opportunity.

His Qatar win was not at all predictable. Although he delivered a superb drive for Red Bull, the race outcome was heavily influenced by a controversial strategic decision from the Woking-based team. Opting not to pit during an initial safety car period, McLaren inadvertently handed the race lead to their rival, who seized the moment perfectly.

"I'm excited, I'm eager to go there and give it my best shot," Verstappen commented. "I approach it with just positive energy. I will give everything I can but at the same time, even without the title, I still know that I had a fantastic season."

This perspective according to him takes a lot of the pressure. The aim for the ultimate battle is simple: to maximize each opportunity from himself and the RB21.

A Stunning Turnaround Fueled by Upgrades and Teamwork.

The incredible part of this late-season charge truly astonishing is the margin he has recovered. Following the Zandvoort round in August, he was a massive over a century of points behind the then-leader his rival and had publicly written off his championship hopes.

The turnaround began with substantial technical upgrades introduced by Red Bull at the Italian Grand Prix. Adjustments to the vehicle's underbody and aerodynamic package rectified ongoing handling problems, allowing the driver to push to the limit with the car once more.

Following those upgrades, his performance has been nothing short of formidable, racking up five victories and multiple podiums. He was quick to credit the collective effort behind this resurgence.

"We have achieved victories where maybe it seemed unlikely, by making the right call as a unit," he explained. "The way I work with my race engineer and the entire crew... we are really well integrated."

The Stakes for a Memorable Finale.

Ahead of the travel to Abu Dhabi, the championship picture is crystal clear.

• The championship leader can secure his debut world title if he finishes ahead of both Verstappen and Piastri or takes a top-three position.
• The challenger must win and needs that Norris places fourth or lower.
• The third contender, who is by sixteen points, must also win and see his teammate finish sixth or worse.

The intensity rests heavily on the papaya-colored cars, who have seen a sizable lead disappear due to unfortunate events, including a twin DSQ in Las Vegas. From his perspective, this position allows for freedom, transforming the last event into a simple chance to go for glory with zero pressure.
