Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his future following another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the club's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with outcomes like these.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
