Supporters Demand Custody of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are demanding that a man who leaped a barricade and seized the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared clip shows the individual from Australia shoving aside photographers and charging at Grande while the actors proceeded down a promenade accompanied by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "released after being taken in", though court documents showed that he was due to be present on the next day. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a performance. His Instagram profile includes videos of him interrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last year.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a punishable act," stated an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Grande's Past Trauma
Several fans accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said one more message on Instagram.
A number of attendees also criticised guards at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while others called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage spreading on the internet, Grande appeared surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of attendees had assembled in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore mall, including a number who had queued for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be released on 21 November, is the sequel of a dual interpretation of the acclaimed theatrical show Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two contrasting sorceresses.
The show itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a light pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored ten Oscar nominations, earning several for best costume and production design.
