The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for gamers looking for different ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while another lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
