Israelis have assembled across the country to commemorate the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated assault on 7 October 2023, as negotiations proceeded in the neighboring country over an end to the conflict in Gaza.

The assault saw more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel answered by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are considered accurate by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"Our bloodthirsty adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister stated on that day.

He also promised to "realize all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will not pose a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The government authorities delayed state remembrance events until 16 October - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still occurred across the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the relatives of people killed in the Hamas assault was organized in Tel Aviv. Organized by the families themselves, it was aired across Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was held around the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a second day of indirect talks to review the terms of the proposal.

A senior representative knowledgeable about the discussions revealed that an night meeting of negotiations started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative said the earlier meeting concluded without tangible results, because of disagreements over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not resume fighting after the first phase of the agreement.

He noted that the negotiations are "challenging and have yet to produce any major advancement," but noted that intermediaries are making efforts to narrow the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Essential Matters in Talks

  • An enduring truce
  • The swap of the prisoners still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies deliveries
  • Future governance of the region

Public Reaction

In the city's memorial area previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother survived the attack on the outdoor event, where hundreds were murdered and numerous more were abducted by Hamas fighters - told: "Nowhere feels like home any longer and until each abducted person are released no one will feel safe."

"Once we see all home again, we can breathe once more. Then we can begin to heal," she continued.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem, people assembled to show their support for the relatives of the captives. Israel states forty-eight remain in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Demonstrator a participant remarked: "We must do every compromise required for the abducted to come back home. But we really want guarantees that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that about the majority of the population desire the hostilities to end in as payment for the release of the captives.

Gaza Conditions

At the area of the music event, grieving people gathered to pay their respects.

From there, the boom of military attacks and shelling could be noticed just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people reported the severe Israeli attacks continued.

In Gaza City, attacks were documented in the dawn of that day in the western district, sector and locality neighbourhoods and in the east side area of that sector, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"Once the evening comes, the fear appears with it," displaced Gaza City resident a mother, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike last year, described.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the bombings. All the night we are sleeping together, embracing, notably my smallest child who rests his head on me throughout the night."

"Every second we monitor the news to see what happened. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the war will come back to us."

Humanitarian Emergency

The medical facility in the urban area said it had accepted the bodies of six people by the afternoon, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of that area reported two more fatalities had been transported. One of them was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while looking for help to the south region, medics said.

The region's health ministry said 25 of the {territ
