The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
